Security operatives hold emergency meetings in Osogbo, urging Christian and Muslim leaders to enforce strict safety protocols across churches, mosques, and public places.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has alerted religious leaders in Osun State to an intelligence report detailing plans by terrorists to attack places of worship and public gathering spots across the state.
Officers from the secret police held separate emergency meetings in Osogbo with leaders of the Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to outline urgent security measures.
Intelligence gathered by the agency indicates that armed groups intend to spread violence from the northern region into the South-West, moving through transit corridors in Kaduna and Jos into Osun State to trigger widespread fear ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the security alert, the President of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi, confirmed the meeting and stated that the DSS instructed mosque committees to implement proactive measures immediately.
These measures include prohibiting vehicles from parking near congregations during Friday Jum’at prayers, preventing strangers from sleeping inside mosques, and deploying night guards across worship premises.
Similarly, the Osun State CAN Chairman, Pastor John Adeleke, confirmed that Christian leaders received the security advisory. He noted that churches were advised to restrict parking near church grounds, screen unfamiliar visitors before entry, and avoid holding unmonitored overnight programmes.
Both religious bodies have since sent out security notices across their state networks, advising school owners, market leaders, and administrators of public gathering sites to maintain high vigilance.
