……Osun governor urges residents to report suspicious movements amid intelligence of planned attacks on worship centres
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed residents to report suspicious movements and individuals to security agencies following intelligence about a possible terrorist threat in the South-West.
Adeleke also announced plans to convene the State Security Council to assess the situation and review the state’s response plans.
The governor’s directive followed an exclusive report by PUNCH Online on a meeting between the Department of State Services (DSS) and leaders of the Osun Muslim Community and the Christian Association of Nigeria.
At the meeting, the religious leaders were reportedly informed of intelligence suggesting that terrorists planned to mobilise into South-West states and cause mayhem.
The reported plan was allegedly aimed at creating voter apathy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeleke Urges Residents to Stay Alert
Reacting to the development, Adeleke urged residents to immediately alert security agencies whenever they notice suspicious activities.
He particularly called for vigilance in border communities where an influx of unfamiliar individuals could raise security concerns.
“We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports on noticeable threats in our communities,” Adeleke said.
The governor also warned residents to remain vigilant over alleged plans to attack places of worship.
He urged members of the public to report anything unusual without delay.
Governor Praises DSS
Adeleke commended the DSS for taking what he described as proactive measures to address the reported threats.
He also directed other security agencies to review the situation and develop action plans to strengthen the protection of lives and property.
The governor said he would soon convene the State Security Council to assess the intelligence and determine the effectiveness of existing security response plans.
He urged residents to work closely with security agencies through timely information sharing.
Traditional Rulers Asked to Act
Adeleke also called on traditional rulers across Osun State to discuss the security concerns during their traditional council meetings.
He urged residents to be cautious about people they accommodate within their communities.
The governor said the state must prevent any attempt by terrorists or bandits to disrupt public peace.
“Our administration is committed to post-election peace-building, and we must tighten state security to foil any attempt by terrorists and bandits to disrupt public peace,” he said.
The governor’s warning comes amid heightened concerns over security threats and the potential impact of violence on communities and political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
