Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will receive overwhelming support in the state during the 2027 presidential election, claiming that opposition candidates may struggle to secure 25 per cent of the votes.

Sani attributed his optimism to what he described as the Tinubu administration’s significant interventions in Kaduna, particularly in infrastructure, education, agriculture, security and human capital development.

The governor spoke during an interview with TVC on Sunday, a day after the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched Tinubu’s re-election campaign at Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna.

“In Kaduna, we are not talking about 70 per cent. Allowing any candidate to even get 25 per cent in Kaduna is a failure on our side because President Tinubu has done for Kaduna something we never dreamt of having,” Sani said.

He urged voters in northern Nigeria to assess Tinubu’s performance rather than make electoral decisions based on ethnic or regional considerations.

At Saturday’s rally, the governor commended the president for what he described as unprecedented support for state governments.

Sani Highlights Kaduna Infrastructure Projects

Sani cited several federal projects and interventions as reasons he expects Kaduna residents to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He commended the president for handing over Ahmadu Bello Stadium to the Kaduna State Government, saying his administration would reconstruct the facility to meet FIFA standards, with a seating capacity of 33,000.

The governor also highlighted the reconstruction of the 123-kilometre Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road, which he said had remained abandoned for more than four decades.

According to Sani, the federal government had released ₦178 billion for the road project.

On rail transportation, he said the government had approved $865 million for the proposed Kaduna metropolitan light rail project. He added that China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation had received $300 million in mobilisation funds.

Sani argued that these projects and other federal interventions justified his expectation of substantial support for Tinubu in the state.

Governor Challenges Opposition Parties

Beyond defending the president’s record, Sani urged opposition parties to strengthen their grassroots campaigns instead of concentrating on criticising the APC and its activities on social media.

“If you are campaigning to win elections, you have to go out and meet with the people,” he said.

The governor criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming they had focused on reacting to the ruling party’s activities without presenting convincing campaign strategies or engaging sufficiently with ordinary Nigerians.

He singled out the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), saying he had observed the party organising town hall meetings and reaching out to voters.

“You can’t run a campaign by reacting to what another party is doing. Go and do your own campaign,” he advised opposition parties.

Sani also accused opposition politicians of using artificial intelligence and manipulated images to discredit the APC rather than taking their messages directly to voters.

He said the APC’s grassroots mobilisation would support its efforts in 2027, adding that opposition alliances were not the ruling party’s concern.

ADC Criticises APC Campaign Launch

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress criticised the APC’s campaign launch, describing the event as disappointing rather than evidence of widespread public support for Tinubu.

In a statement, Kola Ologbondiyan, director of media and publicity for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, alleged that the APC mobilised supporters from across the seven North-West states and beyond.

He further alleged that payments ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦100,000 were made to individuals attending the rally.

The allegation was attributed to the ADC and was not independently established in the information provided.

Kaduna Campaign Debate Intensifies Ahead Of 2027

Sani’s remarks highlight the competing narratives emerging as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

The governor has pointed to federal infrastructure projects and government interventions as evidence supporting Tinubu’s re-election campaign. Opposition parties, meanwhile, have questioned the significance of the APC rally and its claims of public support.

The actual level of support for the candidates will be determined by voters at the polls. Sani’s assertion that opposition candidates may fail to secure 25 per cent of the vote remains his political assessment rather than an established election outcome.
