Host state wins several events as athletes from five states battle for places at the national competition in Lagos
Kaduna State dominated the North-West zonal eliminations of the maiden National Sports Commission (NSC) Intermediate Games.
The three-day competition was held at Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna.
Athletes from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara participated in the zonal competition.
Jigawa and Kebbi were absent from the event, leaving five of the seven North-West states to compete for qualification slots.
The competition provided young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their talents and secure places at the national competition scheduled to hold in Lagos.
Kaduna Shines Across Several Events
The host state emerged as one of the biggest winners of the zonal eliminations.
Kaduna finished first in both the male and female cricket competitions.
The state also dominated the beach volleyball events, taking first place in both the male and female categories.
Kaduna continued its strong performance in handball, winning the male and female competitions.
Sokoto finished second in the handball events.
The results highlighted Kaduna’s strong presence in several team sports during the regional competition.
Kano, Kaduna Share Volleyball Honours
Kano and Kaduna shared the top positions in the indoor volleyball competitions.
Kano finished first in the male category, while Kaduna placed second.
The performances across the different events secured qualification opportunities for athletes ahead of the national competition.
The NSC Intermediate Games are expected to bring together young athletes from different parts of Nigeria when the national competition takes place in Lagos.
The zonal eliminations are part of the process of identifying and developing emerging sporting talents across the country.
