Nworgu delivers Nigeria’s first gold

Esther Nworgu set the tone for Nigeria’s medal campaign by winning the country’s first gold medal in the women’s lightweight para powerlifting event.

Her performance gave Team Nigeria an early boost and underlined the country’s strength in para sport.

Folashade Oluwafemiayo also produced a remarkable display in the women’s heavyweight para powerlifting event.

She won gold while setting a new world record, adding another major highlight to Nigeria’s campaign.

Nathaniel makes history in 400m hurdles

Ezekiel Nathaniel also joined Nigeria’s gold-medal winners after producing a historic performance in the men’s 400m hurdles.

His victory strengthened Nigeria’s position on the medal table and added an athletics gold to the country’s growing haul.

Meanwhile, Kanyinsola Ajayi secured bronze in the men’s 100 metres after clocking 9.90 seconds.

His podium finish ended a decades-long wait for Nigeria to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s blue-riband sprint event.

Nigeria finishes as Africa’s best

Nigeria’s 24-medal haul placed the country seventh overall, while no other African nation finished above it on the final standings.

The result represents another strong showing for Nigeria at a major multi-sport competition and highlights the country’s depth in para powerlifting, athletics and other events.

The Nigerian contingent also benefited from strong performances across the closing stages of the competition, allowing the team to climb significantly from its earlier position.

A strong Glasgow campaign

The final result gives Nigeria plenty to celebrate after a competitive Games campaign.

The country secured 10 gold medals and added seven silver and seven bronze medals to reach 24 overall.
