Ghana’s Black Sharks have qualified for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after defeating Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles 7-4 in the second leg of their qualifying tie in Keta on Sunday.

The victory at the Emancipation Beach Soccer Arena secured a 10-7 aggregate win for Ghana, eliminating Nigeria from the race for a place at the continental championship.

The two West African rivals entered the decisive encounter following a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Kaduna, leaving qualification open ahead of the return fixture.

However, the Black Sharks capitalised on home advantage to score seven goals and secure their place at the tournament scheduled for Senegal from November 7 to 15, 2026.

For Nigeria, the defeat ends its qualification campaign despite a competitive performance in the first leg.

Ghana Capitalise On Home Advantage

Ghana approached the return fixture knowing that victory would secure qualification after the teams shared the spoils in Kaduna.

The first leg produced an entertaining contest, with Nigeria’s Isa Hamza Manga scoring all three goals for the Super Sand Eagles.

Ghana responded through a brace from Mawuli Sosu and a goal by Wise Nyamadi to force a 3-3 draw.

The match was initially followed by extra time and a penalty shootout, which Ghana won 5-4. However, officials subsequently acknowledged that the additional period and shootout should not have taken place because the match was the first leg of a two-match qualifying tie.

The first-leg result was therefore recognised as a 3-3 draw, leaving the contest to be decided in Keta.

With the aggregate score level before the return fixture, Ghana produced the decisive performance, scoring seven goals to complete a 10-7 aggregate victory.

Nigeria’s Beach Soccer AFCON Hopes End

The defeat represents a setback for the Super Sand Eagles, who have previously won the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations twice, in 2006 and 2007.

Nigeria entered the qualifying contest seeking a return to the continental championship and an opportunity to re-establish itself among Africa’s leading beach soccer nations.

Manga’s hat-trick in the first leg had raised hopes of qualification, but Nigeria could not contain Ghana’s attack in the decisive encounter.

The result highlights the importance of consistency across both legs of a qualifying tie, with Ghana taking advantage of home conditions to secure progression.

The Super Sand Eagles will now have to assess their campaign after falling short against their West African rivals.

Black Sharks Turn Attention To Senegal

Qualification gives Ghana an opportunity to compete against Africa’s leading beach soccer teams at the 2026 continental championship.

The Ghana Football Association had previously organised trials and training activities to select players based on fitness, technical ability, tactical discipline and overall competitiveness.

The victory in Keta rewards the team’s preparations and provides momentum ahead of the tournament in Senegal.

The Black Sharks will now focus on strengthening their squad and preparing for the demands of the continental finals.

Beach Soccer AFCON Offers World Cup Opportunity

The 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Senegal from November 7 to 15, with eight teams expected to compete for the continental title.

Beyond the African championship, the tournament is also significant for countries seeking qualification for the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

According to the supplied report, the two finalists in Senegal are expected to secure Africa’s qualification places for the global competition.

Ghana will therefore aim to build on its victory over Nigeria and pursue a strong showing at the finals.

The 7-4 win in Keta has settled the qualifying contest, sending Ghana through on a 10-7 aggregate score while bringing Nigeria’s campaign to an end.
