A Lagos businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Police Service Commission and the National Assembly over allegations of property destruction, land grabbing and abuse of office against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Jimoh Moshood.
Ogunseye, through his lawyers led by human rights attorney Marshal Abubakar, accused the AIG in charge of Zone 2 of allegedly supervising the destruction of property worth more than ₦1 billion at Plot 77, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The petition also accused the police officer and his team of alleged abuse of power, malicious destruction of property and forceful entry.
Businessman Claims Ownership Of Lekki Property
In the petition, Ogunseye identified himself as the beneficial owner of the disputed property, covered by Certificate of Occupancy No. 50/50/1990A.
The property is situated at Lekki Peninsula Scheme 1 and was originally registered in the name of his elder brother, Samuel Alao Ajibode, from whom he said he derived title after purchasing the land.
He claimed that he and his family had remained in peaceful possession of the property since the purchase.
According to the petition, Ogunseye built a family home and laid the foundation for 10 additional houses on the land. He valued the structures at more than ₦1 billion.
The businessman said a company, Skyview Properties Ltd., subsequently instituted a lawsuit against Ajibode over ownership of the property.
He alleged that the dispute remains before the Lagos State Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/LAG/CV/123/2025.
The petition maintained that the court had yet to determine the rightful ownership of the property.
It further claimed that a subsisting stay of execution and status quo order restrained parties, government officials and law enforcement agencies from interfering with, demolishing or altering the property pending the outcome of the litigation.
Petition Accuses AIG Of Demolishing Property
The petitioner alleged that AIG Jimoh Moshood mobilised armed tactical police officers and heavy-duty demolition equipment to the property despite the ongoing court proceedings.
The petition claimed that the operation resulted in the destruction of structures valued at more than ₦1 billion.
It further alleged that the officers acted without a valid court order, warrant of execution or other legal directive.
The petition reads in part:
“To our utmost surprise, the AIG, in charge of Zone 2, AIG Jimoh Moshood, acting entirely out of personal interest in the land, mobilized heavily armed tactical police detachments alongside heavy-duty demolition machinery to the site.
“Operating entirely without any valid court order, warrant of execution, or legal directive, he enforced the absolute destruction and flattening of our client’s property worth over ₦1,000,000,000.”
The petitioner also alleged that the AIG and his officers ignored court documents and the stay order when the property owner’s representatives presented them at the scene.
He described the alleged action as an attempt to facilitate unlawful land acquisition.
The allegations have not been independently established in the supplied report.
Earlier Petition Submitted To Zone 2
Ogunseye said he had earlier submitted a petition dated October 19, 2026, through the law firm Rose of Sharon Solicitors.
According to him, the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos, received and acknowledged the petition on the same date.
He subsequently approached the offices of the IGP, Police Service Commission and National Assembly over the alleged misconduct.
Petitioner Seeks Investigation, Disciplinary Action
In his latest petition, Ogunseye urged the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and order a thorough investigation into the allegations.
He also requested disciplinary action against the officers involved if investigations establish misconduct.
The businessman further asked the IGP to direct the Lagos State Police Command to respect the alleged subsisting stay of execution.
He said the directive should prevent any unauthorised transfer or takeover of the disputed property while the court case remains pending.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain comments from AIG Jimoh Moshood or police spokespersons at the Force Headquarters in Abuja were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
