Former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is closing in on a move to Scottish champions Celtic after leaving Turkish side Besiktas.
The 32-year-old became a free agent in August and has since trained with Arsenal to maintain fitness. However, talks over a switch to Celtic Park have advanced, although both parties have yet to finalise the deal.

Celtic Confirm Interest
Celtic manager Martin O’Neil confirmed the club’s interest in signing the experienced midfielder. He described Oxlade-Chamberlain as enthusiastic about the opportunity but acknowledged that the player has other options.
“I’ve spoken to him, but he has plenty of options, maybe closer to London,” O’Neil said.
Celtic are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for domestic and European competitions this season.
Career Journey So Far
Oxlade-Chamberlain started his professional career at Southampton before joining Arsenal in 2011. He made 198 appearances for the Gunners and won three FA Cups during his six-year stay.
In 2017, he moved to Liverpool in a £35 million transfer. At Anfield, he won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite those achievements, recurring injuries limited his consistency and reduced his playing time in key seasons.
Recent Spell in Turkey
The midfielder joined Besiktas in 2023 and made 46 appearances, scoring five goals. He left the club in August and has since explored new opportunities as a free agent.
A move to Celtic would offer him regular football and a chance to compete in European competitions again.
What Happens Next?
Negotiations remain ongoing, and Celtic have not announced an official agreement. If both sides complete the deal, Oxlade-Chamberlain will add experience and versatility to the Scottish champions’ midfield.
The coming days could determine whether the former England international begins a new chapter in Glasgow.
