A new air link between Durban, South Africa, and Réunion Island will soon take off, initially operating as a charter service rather than a regular commercial flight.
Collaboration Between Operators
The flights are being launched through a partnership between Engage Connection and FLY VETIV’AIR, with Global Airways providing aircraft and operational support.
Engage Connection will handle marketing for FLY VETIV’AIR, which is acting as both charter operator and flight promoter.
A Global Airways spokesperson clarified that the service does not operate as a conventional airline route. Instead, the goal is to provide direct connectivity via chartered flights, while Global Airways focuses solely on aircraft operations.
Regulatory Approvals and Flight Schedule
The spokesperson added that the launch still requires regulatory clearance, commercial agreements, and final operational approval.
The inaugural flight will depart Durban on 27 February, with a return leg on 6 March. Flights will operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Engage Connection also announced additional outbound flights on 28 February and 1, 6, 7, and 8 March, with return trips scheduled for 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 March.
Aircraft Details
The route will use an Airbus A320-200, configured for 168 passengers, including 12 premium economy seats and 156 economy seats.
Future Prospects
Industry observers say that the service could expand into a fully scheduled route if passenger demand, regulatory approvals, and commercial viability align.
