The proposed direct air connection between Durban, South Africa, and Réunion Island, has been confirmed with operators saying that the route will initially run as a charter service, not a scheduled commercial flight.
The Durban–Réunion flights are being introduced through a collaboration between Engage Connection and FLY VETIV’AIR, while Global Airways will provide the aircraft and operational support.
Engage Connection is responsible for marketing the service on behalf of FLY VETIV’AIR, which is acting as both the charterer and the flight marketing operator.
Clarifying the nature of the operation, a spokesperson for Global Airways explained that the service should not be mistaken for a conventional airline route.
According to the spokesperson, the partnership aims to establish direct connectivity between Durban and Réunion Island through chartered flights, with Global Airways’ involvement limited strictly to aircraft operations. The flights, they noted, will commence under a charter framework rather than a fixed airline schedule.
The spokesperson added that the launch remains subject to regulatory clearances, commercial arrangements, and final operational approvals.
The inaugural charter flight is expected to depart Durban on 27 February, with the return leg scheduled for 6 March. Flights are planned to operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Engage Connection further disclosed that additional outbound flights are pencilled in for 28 February and 1, 6, 7, and 8 March, while return services are planned for 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 March.
The route will be serviced by an Airbus A320-200, configured to carry 168 passengers, comprising 12 premium economy seats and 156 economy class seats.
Rider: Industry observers note that future expansion of the route into a fully scheduled service will depend on passenger demand, regulatory approvals, and sustained commercial viability.
