The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to address climate change challenges in Nigeria’s livestock sector while promoting sustainable growth and inclusive development.

The declaration was made in Abuja on Tuesday by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, during a meeting with a joint delegation from the World Bank, AfDB, and members of the Technical Working Group on Climate Change.

Represented at the meeting by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Ohaeri Stephen Ezenwa, Akujobi explained that the proposed collaboration aligns with the ministry’s mandate to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on livestock production, protect livelihoods, and encourage environmentally responsible practices across the livestock value chain.

“The livestock sector remains a vital component of Nigeria’s economy, contributing significantly to food security, nutrition, employment, and rural livelihoods, yet it is highly vulnerable to climate variability and global warming,” she noted.

The ministry’s engagement with international financial institutions underscores its commitment to fostering resilience, sustainability, and innovation within Nigeria’s livestock industry, ensuring that farmers and communities can thrive despite climate-related challenges.
