Renowned Nigerian clergyman and philanthropist, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has offered words of encouragement to Afrobeats superstar Davido following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Speaking to supporters, Odumeje described the singer as a “generational award,” highlighting that his accomplishments go far beyond formal recognition.
“There is one of our brothers that I love so much. That is a very great musician, and that is Davido. You are already a generational award, awarded a lot of awards,” Odumeje said.
He added, “There is no award that you will receive now that truly matters. You have already been awarded everything you need. Your life is an award. Your steps are an award.”
Odumeje encouraged the singer not to be disheartened by the Grammy outcome, advising him to continue producing music that inspires audiences worldwide.
“Don’t allow ordinary people to quench the fire of your joy. Go out, find inspiration, and shock the world with your next music. Avoid places where you are not appreciated,” he said.
He further stressed, “Be mindful. You are already on top of the world. Let the world come to you. Don’t allow anyone to demoralise you or undermine your quality.”
At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla won the Best African Music Performance award, beating Nigerian stars Davido, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr in the category.
Despite the setback, Odumeje emphasised that Davido’s legacy and global influence remain unmatched, urging him to continue excelling on the international music stage.
