San Diego will invest an additional $16.5 million into its Bridge to Home program, now open to developers for the seventh round of funding, city officials announced Thursday.
The investment adds to $123 million already allocated to fast-track the construction of 2,676 affordable homes across 28 projects. Mayor Todd Gloria said the funds provide crucial gap financing to bring more projects closer to construction, benefiting working families, seniors, and those at risk of homelessness.
Of the $16.5 million, $12 million comes from former redevelopment funds for site improvements and construction, while $4.5 million is from State Permanent Local Housing Allocation funds for households at or below 30% of the area median income.
Developers can submit proposals by April 6, 5 p.m., with applications evaluated based on project feasibility, community benefits, inclusion of on-site day care, location in Moderate to Highest Resource Areas, or partnerships with emerging developers.
Since the program began in 2021, five projects totaling 390 affordable homes have been completed, with 146 homes including supportive services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Economic Development Director Christina Bibler emphasized the program’s role in accelerating housing production, revitalizing neighborhoods, and ensuring equitable access.
