Award-winning Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about how his wife, Chioma Adeleke, encouraged him following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit With You, featuring Omah Lay, but did not win the award, marking the second time in his career he has missed out.
The category featured strong Nigerian representation, including Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You, and a collaboration by Ayra Starr and Wizkid titled Gimme Dat. Other nominees included Eddy Kenzo’s Hope & Love and Mehran Matin.
Despite the dominance of African acts, South African singer Tyla won the award with her track Push 2 Start, securing her second Grammy win.
Speaking after the ceremony, Davido revealed that he initially considered skipping the after-party due to disappointment. However, his wife Chioma encouraged him to maintain composure and grace.
Sharing photos from the event on Instagram, Davido credited his wife with advising him, saying: “Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat,” which inspired him to attend the celebration despite the setback.
The singer’s post has since received support from fans and fellow celebrities, praising both his humility and Chioma’s encouragement.
