Award-winning Nigerian artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has shared how his wife, Chioma Adeleke, supported him after he missed out at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Davido earned a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for his song With You, featuring Omah Lay. However, he did not secure the award, marking another near-win in his Grammy journey.

Strong Nigerian Presence in the Category

The Best African Music Performance category featured several Nigerian stars, including:

  • Burna Boy – Love

  • Davido featuring Omah Lay – With You

  • Ayra Starr & Wizkid – Gimme Dat

Other nominees included Eddy Kenzo’s Hope & Love and Mehran Matin.

Despite the heavy African representation, South African singer Tyla won the award with her track Push 2 Start, earning her second Grammy victory.

Davido’s Reaction After the Ceremony

Following the announcement, Davido admitted that he felt disappointed and initially considered skipping the Grammy after-party.

However, Chioma encouraged him to remain positive and composed.

According to the singer, she reminded him:
“Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.”

Her words motivated him to attend the celebration and maintain a dignified presence despite the setback.

Fans Praise His Composure

Davido later shared photos from the event on Instagram, where he credited his wife for her support. Fans and fellow celebrities quickly flooded the comment section with messages of encouragement.

Many praised the singer for handling the loss with maturity, while others applauded Chioma for offering timely advice.

Looking Ahead

Although Davido did not take home the trophy, his nomination reaffirmed his influence in the global Afrobeats movement. Industry observers say his continued recognition at international award platforms highlights the growing global reach of Nigerian music.

For the singer, the night ended not with a win, but with a reminder of resilience and perspective.
