Nigerian actress Angela Okorie was reportedly re-arrested at Suleja Prison on Tuesday, just hours after being released on bail, amid claims that she refused to pay the lawyer who secured her release.
The development came less than an hour after actor Stanley Ontop hinted publicly about a possible re-arrest plan.
Actress Doris Ogala, who shared a video on Instagram, said she was heading to the police station following Okorie’s re-arrest. Ogala alleged that the detention was ordered by an unnamed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) after Okorie reportedly declined to pay the agreed N5 million fee for legal services.
According to Ogala, the SAN had facilitated Okorie’s bail following her initial arrest by actress Mercy Johnson over alleged defamation. However, Ogala claimed that Okorie later refused to settle the legal fee.
“Angela started saying she didn’t ask to get a SAN and she wasn’t going to pay the money, even though the lawyer had already deposited it,” Ogala said in the video.
Okorie initially regained her freedom on Friday after fulfilling the conditions of her bail. Her legal team and representatives of the SAN have yet to comment publicly on the alleged dispute.
