American Christian worship leader, singer and songwriter Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81.

The influential gospel musician, whose worship songs reached millions of listeners worldwide, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, United States, Kenoly rose to global prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as one of the most recognisable voices in contemporary gospel music.

He became widely known for leading energetic live worship concerts that inspired audiences across the United States, Africa and other parts of the world.

Kenoly was celebrated for praise anthems such as Lift Him Up and Jesus Is Alive, among several other songs recorded during live worship sessions. His music encouraged generations of believers to express their faith through vibrant praise.

Before committing to a full-time music career, Kenoly served in the United States Air Force. His major breakthrough came in 1992 when Lift Him Up became one of the fastest-selling worship albums of its time.

Another notable project, Welcome Home, produced by Tom Brooks, received critical acclaim and topped Billboard’s contemporary worship music chart.

Throughout his career, Kenoly’s influence remained strong in the gospel music industry, where he was admired not only for his voice but also for his passion for worship and ministry.

He is survived by his family and a global community of followers who continue to draw inspiration from his music and legacy.
