The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has entered a strategic partnership with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to overhaul its curriculum and align with international best practices.
During a courtesy visit to the NBTE, NIS Director General Comrade Philip Shaibu emphasized the importance of modernizing coaching programmes and skill development initiatives. He revealed that the institute has drawn up a 10-year strategic roadmap under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore NIS to its position as a leading sports training institution in Africa.
“Our mandate goes beyond academics to include technical training for coaches, management staff, and elite athletes,” Shaibu said. “We are upgrading curricula, incorporating modern techniques, and ensuring that NIS can compete globally once again.”
Speaking on behalf of NBTE Executive Secretary Professor Idris Bugaje, Professor Diya’udeen Bashir Hassan affirmed that the board will provide supervisory support for curriculum development and skill enhancement programmes, noting the partnership will also benefit national sports development.
Both institutions pledged to explore additional areas of collaboration to strengthen sports training, technical expertise, and skills development across Nigeria.
