President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following a deadly attack on Worro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected jihadist fighters, claimed the lives of more than 100 residents, according to local authorities. The victims included 75 Muslims who had resisted the extremists’ attempts to impose their ideology on the community.

In response, President Tinubu ordered the immediate deployment of a military battalion to affected areas, the appointment of a field commander, and the commencement of a military operation codenamed Operation Savanna Shield.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the orders in a post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956. He stated that the intervention aims to provide immediate relief to affected communities and restore security in the area.

“Help is on the way for the beleaguered people of Kaiama and other communities as President Tinubu orders the deployment of a military battalion, the appointment of a commander, and the start of Operation Savanna Shield,” Onanuga wrote.

The incident has intensified concerns over the rising threat of extremist violence in Nigeria’s heartland, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated security efforts to protect vulnerable communities.
