Nigeria’s domestic aviation industry recorded another milestone on Monday as Binani Air successfully operated its first commercial flight to Lagos, marking a major expansion of its growing route network.
The inaugural service departed Abuja and landed smoothly at the Lagos airport, with passengers and aviation stakeholders praising the airline for its punctual departure, organised boarding process, and onboard service.
The development comes days after the airline launched operations on key northern routes, including Abuja, Kano, and Yola, as it seeks to strengthen connectivity across Nigeria.
Binani Air Targets Growth in Nigeria’s Aviation Sector
Speaking ahead of the flight, the airline’s Group President, Aminatu Dahiru Chiroma described the Lagos route as a strategic step toward building a reliable and customer-focused indigenous carrier.
According to her, the new operation reflects the airline’s broader mission to improve mobility, connect businesses, and support economic activities across the country.
“Today’s flight to Lagos represents more than route expansion. It shows our commitment to connecting people, businesses, and opportunities across Nigeria,” she said.
She added that the airline intends to earn public trust through consistency, professionalism, operational discipline, and quality customer service.
The management also assured passengers that safety and service delivery would remain top priorities as operations continue to expand.
Binani Group Chairperson Commends Tinubu’s Aviation Policies
Chairperson of the Binani Group, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, said the airline remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s economic growth through improved transportation services.
She also praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies aimed at encouraging private sector participation in the aviation industry.
According to her, stronger collaboration between airline operators and regulators is necessary to sustain growth within the sector.
“Lagos is a strategic commercial destination and this operation marks another important chapter for Binani Air,” she stated.
She further pledged that the airline would continue investing in manpower development, operational efficiency, and global best practices.
Passengers Praise Smooth Operations
Several passengers onboard the inaugural Lagos flight expressed satisfaction with the airline’s services and coordination.
A business traveller described the experience as stress-free, noting that the check-in and boarding process remained orderly from start to finish.
Another passenger commended the airline’s professionalism and punctuality, adding that competition among local carriers could improve service quality across Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Others also highlighted the affordability of fares and the smooth flight experience as positive signs for the airline’s future growth.
Growing Competition in Nigeria’s Aviation Industry
Industry observers say the arrival of more indigenous airlines could improve travel options, increase competition, and support commercial activities across major Nigerian cities.
Officials of Binani Air noted that the Lagos route would help strengthen business travel, tourism, and regional connectivity while creating more accessible travel opportunities for Nigerians.
