Social media user Enori retracts false post and issues public video apology after tech company threatens formal legal proceedings over brand sabotage.
A Nigerian social media user, identified on X as Enori, has released an official video apology after admitting to fabricating an image of an exploded Itel Power Tank using artificial intelligence tools.
The user had shared the altered media earlier in the week, claiming that the portable backup power station exploded while charging.
The post quickly circulated across multiple digital platforms, raising widespread safety concerns among consumers before being deleted by the creator.
Public Apology Follows Corporate Warnings of Legal Action
In a video statement released following public backlash, Enori acknowledged that neither the explosion nor the product failure occurred, admitting that the entire scene was digitally manufactured.
“I made a post three days ago claiming that an Itel product exploded and that it was overcharging, which I created using AI,” Enori stated in the video message. “It didn’t happen, and I’m very, very sorry to the Itel team, to Itel customers, and to members of the public who were misled.”
She further expressed regret over the potential damage inflicted on the consumer electronics brand, adding that she did not anticipate the viral spread of the fabricated image.
“I know what it feels like to have a brand and for someone to try to bring it down, and that was never my intention. To potential customers who felt deceived, it was not real. It was AI, and I deleted it,” she added.
Tech Brand Reaffirms Product Safety Standards
The public apology follows a formal disclaimer issued by Itel Energy, in which the tech manufacturer condemned the viral image as malicious misrepresentation and warned of legal consequences for digital defamation.
The company clarified that its Power Tank units utilize lithium iron phosphate battery architecture equipped with integrated over-temperature, short-circuit, and over-voltage protection systems.
Itel emphasized that it would pursue all necessary legal remedies against individuals utilizing AI tools or manipulated media to damage its reputation or mislead the buying public.
Industry experts note that the incident underscores growing concerns surrounding the misuse of generative AI tools to manufacture realistic hoaxes, prompting calls for stricter digital accountability across African tech markets.
