Street-pop singer refuses to pay child upkeep without scientific confirmation, claiming distrust and frequent absences during their relationship.

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has demanded a paternity DNA test for the two children he shares with Nollywood actress Akinyanju Omobolarinde, also known as Ashabi Simple.

The demand comes amid an escalating public dispute over unpaid child support, with Portable insisting he will not release further funds until medical testing confirms his paternity.

Leaked Audio and Instagram Statement Reveal Growing Feud

The controversy intensified after a recorded voice note circulated online and Portable published statements across his social media pages.

In the messages, Portable addressed Ashabi directly following reports that she had contacted his management and threatened legal action over his refusal to cover child upkeep expenses.

“I need a DNA test ASAP so I can take care of those kids, because I do not trust their mother,” Portable stated.

The singer dismissed arguments based on the physical resemblance between himself and the children.

He argued that living in the same environment during their relationship could account for facial similarities, adding that appearance alone would not convince him without hospital-backed proof.

Claims of Distrust and Financial Disputes Surface

Defending his doubts, Portable cited Ashabi’s alleged frequent absences during their relationship.

He claimed she regularly left their home for days under the guise of movie shoot locations, which he argued compromised his trust.

Ashabi previously voiced frustration regarding the lack of financial support, alleging Portable had only provided N200,000 for both children between January and September.

She noted that she had been solely responsible for paying school fees for three terms, as well as covering basic living expenses including food and clothing.

Responding to her threats of involving law enforcement or pursuing court action, Portable rejected pleas to settle their differences amicably for the sake of the children.

He declared their personal relationship completely fractured, maintaining that no financial assistance would be provided without a verified hospital DNA result.

Public Reaction and Legal Implications

The public standoff has sparked widespread debate across Nigerian social media platforms, with commentators divided over Portable’s sudden paternity demand and Ashabi’s claims of neglect.

Legal practitioners note  that while mothers can seek formal child maintenance orders through family courts, fathers retain the right to request court-ordered paternity testing to establish biological obligation before final support rulings are issued.

Neither party has confirmed whether formal legal filings or hospital appointments for the DNA test have been officially scheduled.
