Police said the suspects allegedly robbed the family before killing the couple and their four children and disposing of their bodies in a river.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged killing and robbery of a family of six in Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The victims were identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children.

The police said the incident occurred on September 22, 2026, at about 7pm.

The suspects were identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward. Police said all three are residents of Oloba Village.

The command said detectives began investigating after receiving credible intelligence about the incident on October 2.

Police Outline Alleged Attack

According to the Oyo Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects invaded the family’s residence.

Police alleged that the attackers took ₦200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.

The command said the suspects also carried locally made weapons during the attack.

Police alleged that Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Ojo and Padonu attacked the wife.

The command further alleged that the four children were killed during the incident.

Police said the victims were subsequently disposed of in a nearby river.

One Victim Recovered

The police said detectives visited the scene as the investigation progressed.

Photographs were taken and several exhibits were recovered, including the family’s Boxer motorcycle.

Police also said other exhibits recovered during the investigation included items allegedly connected to the attack.

The command said the three suspects were arrested and detained.

According to the police, the suspects confessed during interrogation to their alleged involvement in the crime.

The remains of the woman have since been recovered.

However, police said efforts are continuing to recover the remains of the other victims.

Investigation Moves To SCID

The suspects and case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku.

The move will allow further investigation and preparation for possible legal proceedings.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation.

The police investigation is still ongoing, particularly the recovery of the remaining victims and establishment of the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

What Remains Unclear

While police have arrested three suspects and said they confessed, the investigation has not yet reached its conclusion.

Police have not indicated whether additional people are being investigated.

Reports have also carried differing accounts from the suspects about the alleged motive for the attack.

One suspect reportedly linked the incident to a dispute involving a damaged mobile phone, while another account suggested the suspects were initially told they were going to collect money from the family. Those accounts remain allegations from the suspects and have not been independently established.

The immediate priority for investigators is to recover the remaining victims, establish the sequence of events and determine the individual responsibility of each suspect.

The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
