Marcel Ngogbehei says the alliance with the Tinubu Must Stay Movement will include a permanent civic accountability programme to assess political promises, policy proposals and their impact on Nigerians.
The Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration (DMI), which mobilised grassroots support for Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections, has formed an alliance with the Tinubu Must Stay (TMS) Movement ahead of the 2027 polls.
DMI leader Marcel Ngogbehei announced the partnership in a statement on Monday, describing it as a new direction for the organisation’s engagement with national development, public policy and citizen participation.
The agreement followed a meeting in London between Ngogbehei and Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, identified by DMI as the leader of the TMS Movement.
The development marks a political shift for DMI, which previously supported Obi’s presidential campaign during the 2023 elections under the Labour Party platform.
Labour Party Crisis Preceded Alliance
According to Ngogbehei, the partnership followed DMI’s national strategy session held on September 18, 2026.
He said members authorised the organisation’s leadership to explore new political and institutional partnerships amid the prolonged crisis within the Labour Party.
The alliance brings together a group associated with the 2023 mobilisation for Obi and a movement advocating continued support for President Bola Tinubu.
However, the announcement does not establish that Peter Obi or the Labour Party endorsed or participated in the agreement.
Ngogbehei said the partnership would encourage stronger public debate about political choices, policy alternatives and national development.
“Opposition is a democratic right, but credible alternatives matter,” he said.
DMI Plans Civic Accountability Programme
Beyond the political alliance, DMI disclosed plans to establish a permanent civic accountability programme.
The initiative will examine political promises, proposed solutions, funding arrangements and their potential effects on citizens.
Ngogbehei said the programme would continue beyond the 2027 general elections, suggesting that the organisation intends to maintain its policy scrutiny beyond the immediate election cycle.
The proposed initiative could provide a platform for assessing campaign commitments and comparing political proposals against their expected costs and benefits.
However, DMI has yet to provide details about the programme’s structure, assessment criteria, publication schedule or mechanisms for public participation.
What The Alliance Means For 2027
The partnership adds to the political realignments taking shape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
DMI’s previous role in mobilising support for Obi makes its new alliance with the TMS Movement a notable development in the emerging political landscape.
The alliance also places renewed attention on the relationship between political mobilisation, policy continuity and demands for alternative approaches to governance.
Its practical influence will depend on how both organisations coordinate their activities, engage voters and translate their stated objectives into measurable programmes.
For now, the announcement establishes the partnership and outlines DMI’s proposed accountability initiative. Its wider electoral impact remains to be seen.
