Former Big Brother Naija winner secures fourth-round technical knockout, taking home championship belt, cash prize, and brand-new car.
Former Big Brother Naija winner Josephina Otabor, popular known as Phyna, has emerged as the champion of Nigeria’s first-ever female celebrity boxing contest after defeating Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday by a fourth-round technical knockout.
The highly anticipated bout took place on Thursday, October 1, at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, as the headlining fixture of the “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Day edition, organized by Balmoral Promotions.
Strategic Tactic Secures Fourth-Round Knockout
From the opening bell, the contest featured contrasting styles, with Nkechi Blessing pressing forward to engage in close-range exchanges while Phyna utilized tactical footwork, jab distance, and movement to manage the fight’s tempo.
As the bout progressed into the fourth and final round, Phyna capitalized on an opening during a rapid exchange, landing a decisive strike that sent Blessing to the canvas.
Blessing failed to beat the referee’s ten-count, prompting the fight official to end the contest and declare Phyna the winner by technical knockout.
Following her victory, Phyna received a championship belt, a ₦50 million cash prize, and a brand-new car presented by event promoters in recognition of her performance.
“My plan was to gas out Blessing first before going for the knockout,” Phyna stated during her post-fight interview. “I am pleased that the strategy worked out exactly as intended.”
Post-Fight Callout Sets Stage for Next Bout
Directly following her victory presentation, the newly crowned celebrity boxing champion called out Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was attending the event ringside.
Idemudia entered the ring to accept the challenge, setting up a potential future showdown framed by organizers and fans as a battle between two prominent Edo State entertainment figures.
The “Chaos in the Ring” event, streamed internationally across broadcast networks including DAZN and SuperSport, featured several high-profile celebrity exhibition matches alongside professional undercard fights.
The successful inaugural female celebrity bout has drawn wide engagement across digital platforms, with fans and sports commentators praising both entertainers for their athleticism and sportsmanship.
