The Ekiti State Government has stepped up efforts to deepen its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen security and expand operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji disclosed this during a working visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

Stronger Security, Bigger Vision
Oyebanji said the state is positioning its airport as a major economic hub.
He stressed that tighter collaboration with the Air Force will improve safety, boost investor confidence, and unlock the facility’s full potential.
He praised the Air Force for its professionalism and role in protecting lives and critical infrastructure, including the airport.
Land Allocation for Air Force Base
To support the partnership, the governor confirmed that the state has allocated over 1,000 hectares of land, complete with a Certificate of Occupancy, for a permanent Air Force presence near the airport.
“We are ready to provide everything required to ensure full operational deployment of the Air Force,” Oyebanji said.
He added that Ekiti’s airport ranks among the most modern in Nigeria, noting that pilots have commended its runway and facilities.
He also revealed that the Instrument Landing System (ILS) will become operational soon.
Air Force Signals Readiness
In response, Air Marshal Aneke welcomed the initiative and commended the governor’s forward-thinking approach to development and security.
He said the Air Force is ready to expand its role in Ekiti, not only to secure the airport but also to support broader economic and regional development.
Aircraft Maintenance Hub in View
Aneke also revealed ongoing discussions with international partners to establish an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centre at the airport.
According to him, the project could:
- Create jobs
- Improve aviation capacity
- Strengthen Nigeria’s air infrastructure
Why This Matters
The proposed partnership signals a strategic push to turn Ekiti into a key aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria.
Improved security and infrastructure could attract investment, enhance cargo operations, and drive long-term economic growth.
