Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has passed away at the age of fifty-seven following a brief, undisclosed illness.

His family announced the tragic news early today through an official statement published across his verified social media accounts.

The family expressed gratitude to fans, colleagues, and well-wishers for their ongoing prayers, support, and understanding during this difficult period.

The late screen icon is survived by his wife Adokiye, whom he married in 2003, and his surviving children.

His passing comes just two years after the family suffered the tragic loss of their youngest son in 2024.

Born in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State, the late actor completed his early education before relocating to Nigeria.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt in 1996.

His professional acting journey began in 1989 with a role in the classic feature film Missing Mark.

However, he achieved massive national prominence in 1995 after starring as Ahanna in the blockbuster film Rattlesnake.

Over his distinguished career spanning more than thirty years, he featured in over one hundred movie productions nationwide.

His versatile performances across drama, comedy, and action established him as one of the most respected figures in African cinema.

Beyond acting, he served as the interim national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria in 2010.

He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Development Communication, applying creative arts toward social advocacy and youth empowerment.

In recognition of his widespread positive influence on young people, he was appointed a United Nations Ambassador of Peace.

He received numerous awards, including the Best Actor in a Leading Role honor at the 2020 Best of Nollywood Awards.

Tributes from fellow actors, filmmakers, government officials, and fans have flooded public media platforms across the country today.

Industry colleagues described him as a dedicated professional, a compassionate mentor, and a steadfast pillar of the entertainment community.

Many noted that his artistic contributions helped shape the foundational structure and international appeal of contemporary Nigerian cinema.

Funeral arrangements and official memorial details will be announced by his family in due course following private deliberations.

The Nigerian entertainment industry continues to honor his enduring legacy, celebrating a brilliant career that inspired generations of viewers.
