The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced the 100 per cent completion of divisional police headquarters and staff quarters in Ushafa and Saburi, as part of efforts to strengthen security infrastructure across the territory.
The facilities are located in Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) respectively.
Director of the FCTA Security Services Department, Adamu Gwary, disclosed this on Wednesday while inspecting the projects in Ushafa and Saburi.
“As you can see, this very particular one at Ushafa, we can adjudge it to be 100% completed,” Gwary said.
He added that the contractor had commenced the handover process, while the technical team from the FCDA Public Building Department would verify that all items contained in the Bill of Quantities and approved drawings had been completed.
12 Police Headquarters Under Construction
Gwary said the Ushafa and Saburi facilities had been fully completed, while other divisional police headquarters across the FCT were at different stages of completion.
He said only one of the ongoing projects was below 90 per cent completion.
According to him, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had directed contractors to complete the outstanding projects before the end of November.
“Many of them are upbeat about completing it on or before the end of November,” he said.
A total of 12 divisional police headquarters are being constructed across the FCT, with two located in each of the six area councils.
One of the projects is located in Igbu, Bwari Area Council, about 30 to 40 kilometres from Ushafa near the FCT-Nasarawa border.
Gwary said the Igbu facility was intended to strengthen security along the border area.
Wike’s 2023 Security Promise
Gwary said the projects were part of the fulfilment of a commitment made by Wike during town hall meetings across the six area councils at the height of security challenges in 2023.
He said the minister had promised residents that security infrastructure would be taken closer to communities.
“Providing this kind of facilities, two in each of the area councils, is the manifestation of such promise by the Honourable Minister to ensure that every nook and cranny of the Territory has been provided with security infrastructure,” Gwary said.
He added that the facilities were intended to support security agencies in making communities safer for residents.
FCTA Expands Security Technology
Gwary said the FCT Administration’s security efforts went beyond physical infrastructure.
According to him, the administration provides monthly logistics support to security agencies and is investing in surveillance technology, including coverage of the presidential route between the airport and the Presidential Villa.
He also disclosed that drones and other security technologies were being deployed.
“Presently, in conjunction with the Inspector General of Police, the presidential route from the airport to the Villa is being covered by technology,” he said.
Gwary added that officials had visited the control room at the Force Headquarters and that further deployment of drones and other facilities was underway.
Contractor Commends FCT Administration
The site engineer for the Ushafa project, Engr. Kabir Owoyebo Muhammed, thanked the FCT Minister for entrusting his company with the construction.
He said the project was designed to address security challenges in Ushafa and Bwari Area Council and was completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He also acknowledged the support of the FCTA Security Services Department, FCDA Public Building Department and Project Monitoring and Evaluation teams.
Police Personnel To Cover Communities
Gwary assured residents that the completion of the new facilities would facilitate the deployment of adequate police personnel across communities.
He said the objective was to enable residents to conduct their lawful activities without fear.
