The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeyemo Mukaila, over the alleged rape of a young girl in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura.
According to the command, the suspect was a friend of the victim’s grandmother and frequently visited their home.
Police alleged that the incident occurred on two separate occasions in September and October 2026.
The statement said the first alleged incident occurred in September after the suspect called the girl to retrieve some items from his house.
Police alleged that the suspect subsequently assaulted the girl. The command said a second incident occurred on October 2, when the girl visited the suspect’s workshop in the Ilupeju area of Ikire.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly took the girl to a nearby bush, where the second assault occurred.
The statement added that people who reportedly noticed the incident confronted the girl, heard her account and pursued the suspect after he fled.
They allegedly apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
Police Urge Parents To Remain Vigilant
The Osun State Police Command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities promptly.
The command also advised members of the public to report concerns to the nearest police station or through official emergency channels.
The suspect’s arrest follows allegations that the girl was assaulted on two occasions. The allegations have not been established in court, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
