Former Kogi State Governor Ibrahim Idris has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026. His death was subsequently confirmed by his nephew, Shehu Ahmed, according to AIT.
Details surrounding the cause of death were not immediately disclosed.
Ododo Visits Family
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo visited the late former governor’s residence in Abuja to offer condolences to the family.
Former Governor Yahaya Bello and other government officials also joined the condolence visit, according to reports.
Ododo described Idris as a significant figure who contributed to Kogi State’s political and business development.
Ibrahim Idris’ Political Career
Ibrahim Idris served as Kogi State governor from 2003 to 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He first assumed office in 2003 and later contested a fresh election in 2008 after the courts nullified his earlier victory.
Idris remained governor until January 2012, when Idris Wada succeeded him.
Before entering politics, he was involved in business through Ibro Trading Company, with interests in construction, furniture manufacturing and hospitality.
