Ademola Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election, Secures Second Term

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election, securing another term in office after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The State Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced the final result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious, while Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes.

The Returning Officer subsequently declared Adeleke elected after confirming that he had fulfilled the requirements of the law.

Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs

The incumbent governor secured victory in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11.

Adeleke recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ayedire.

Oyebamiji, meanwhile, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun local government areas.

The results showed a relatively competitive contest between the two leading candidates, with Adeleke maintaining an overall lead across the state.

Final Election Figures

According to the Returning Officer, a total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election.

The election recorded 1,005,800 total votes cast, while 985,079 votes were declared valid and 207 votes were rejected.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the overall results with 17,180 votes.

Other parties recorded significantly lower figures in the election.

After the results from the various local government areas were presented and signed by representatives of the participating political parties, the Returning Officer formally declared Adeleke the winner.

Professor Ogunwole stated that Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner and returned elected for another term.

The result means Adeleke will continue as governor of Osun State after securing a fresh mandate from voters in the August 15 poll.https://x.com/ChuksEricE/status/2088887419139469379/video/1
