Following the 2026 United Nations theme for the International Day of Peace, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” Rotary leaders in Abuja have called for greater commitment to peace, unity and peaceful coexistence.
The Rotary leaders urged individuals and communities to make peace a deliberate part of their daily lives.
The advocacy brought together the presidents of Rotary Club of Abuja City, Rotary Club of Abuja Federal, Rotary Club of Abuja Federal Capital Territory, Rotary Club of Abuja Kubwa Gateway and Rotary Club of Abuja Prestige.
Together, they took action to spread the message of peace and encourage members of the public to build peaceful relationships in their families, workplaces and communities.
Peace Begins With Individual Choices
The initiative focused on the belief that peace starts with individual choices and collective responsibility.
During their engagement with Rotarians and members of the public, the leaders highlighted the importance of tolerance, respect, dialogue, forgiveness and understanding.
They said these values can help prevent conflict and build stronger communities.
The Rotarians also stressed that peace means more than the absence of conflict. They described it as a way of life that requires everyone to play a role.
They encouraged people to promote peace intentionally, especially in communities where disagreements can escalate when people neglect dialogue and mutual understanding.
Rotary Reaffirms Commitment to Peacebuilding
The event also reinforced Rotary’s commitment to peacebuilding and community service.
The participating leaders said Rotarians have a responsibility to promote peace wherever they find themselves.
They noted that governments and institutions cannot build peaceful communities alone.
According to the leaders, every individual can contribute by choosing peaceful dialogue over confrontation, understanding over intolerance and unity over division.
A Call to Everyday Action
The International Day of Peace advocacy went beyond a commemoration. It served as a call for individuals to make peace part of their everyday choices and actions.
The participating Rotarians reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and encouraging more people to become ambassadors for peaceful coexistence.
Their message was simple: Peace begins with us.
They said every act of kindness, peaceful conversation, effort to resolve conflict and decision to promote understanding can contribute to a more peaceful society.
Through service and advocacy, the Rotarians in Abuja said they will continue working to make peace not just a message, but a way of life.
