A court in the United Kingdom has sentenced two Nigerian nationals to a combined 21 years in prison after they raped a 15-year-old girl in south London.

The Inner London Crown Court heard that the attackers targeted the teenager after buying her drinks at a pub in Brixton on February 8 last year. Prosecutors said the men later took her to a flat, where they assaulted her after she lost consciousness.

What Happened

According to the prosecution, the victim had been out with friends when the men approached them at a local bar. They offered drinks and later invited the group to a nearby apartment.

Her friends grew uneasy and urged her to leave. However, she began to black out and collapsed shortly after arriving at the flat.

Prosecutors told the court that the two men then carried out a prolonged sexual assault. One of them recorded parts of the incident.

Court Verdict and Sentences

A jury found both defendants guilty after they denied the charges.

  • Akinsanya, 34, received a 10-year sentence for rape.
  • Raji, 29, was jailed for 11 years after the court convicted him of two counts of rape and recording an indecent image of a minor.

During sentencing, the judge said the pair exploited the victim’s vulnerability and took advantage of her condition.

Victim Impact

In her statement, the teenager described lasting emotional trauma. She told the court the attack disrupted her education and daily life.

She said she now struggles to trust people and has withdrawn from activities she once enjoyed, including sports. She also declined to watch video evidence presented in court, saying it caused severe distress.

Prosecutors added that the incident had a deep psychological impact, affecting her confidence, social life, and willingness to seek support.

Judge’s Remarks

The judge stressed that the use of alcohol to weaken the victim worsened the crime. He noted that both men acted while she was incapable of giving consent.

He added that the harm caused would have long-term consequences for the victim.

Wider Context

The case has renewed concerns about safeguarding young people in nightlife environments and the risks linked to alcohol and drug use.
