Cattle Roaming Abuja Streets: Wike Takes Responsibility, Promises Action

Must Read

The issue of cattle roaming Abuja streets remains a major concern for residents and motorists, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, admitting that the challenge has yet to be fully addressed.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike apologised to residents over the continued presence of cattle on major roads and streets across the capital city and accepted responsibility for the situation.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja. I take responsibility,” the minister said.

Wike Assures Residents of Government Action

Addressing concerns over cattle roaming Abuja streets, Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration remains committed to finding a lasting solution while continuing efforts to improve infrastructure and public safety across the territory.

He noted that development projects are not limited to the city centre but are also being extended to communities in the six Area Councils.

“Our attention is not only on developing the city centre of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he stated.

According to the minister, ongoing projects cover key sectors including road construction, water supply and housing development for public officials.

FCTA to Commission Projects Across Abuja

Wike further disclosed that the FCT Administration would begin a series of project inaugurations in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu as part of activities marking the administration’s third anniversary in office.

“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he said.

The minister maintained that road projects executed across the territory have improved accessibility and strengthened security in several communities.

Residents Continue to Raise Concerns

The problem of cattle roaming Abuja streets has persisted for years, with residents and motorists frequently raising concerns about road safety, traffic disruption and the movement of livestock within the city.

Many residents have called for stricter enforcement of regulations to prevent cattle from accessing major roads and residential areas.

Wike, however, insisted that residents of the Federal Capital Territory are already experiencing the benefits of policies and development initiatives being implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The renewed commitment by the FCT Administration comes as concerns over cattle roaming Abuja streets continue to generate public debate among residents seeking a safer and more organised capital city.
